Back to School At the Center for Continuing Education
Classes For Students Begin September 18 and throughout the Fall. Registration underway.
It’s not just back to school for the kids this month. Classes begin September 18 and throughout the fall at the Center for Continuing Education in Mamaroneck. Among the new offerings is “Elements of News” with CBS-TV reporter Lou Young. According to the Center’s executive director Diane Cashman, “Whether you want to understand real news from “fake” or are an aspiring journalist, you will get an insider’s perspective on how news is selected and delivered. For those who prefer fiction, we have Science Fiction Lit and Comics and Graphic Novels.”
The Center has long been known for foreign language classes. Teachers are native speakers with extensive experience. Students bond as they share experiences while speaking in a new language such as making pasta while speaking Italian touring a museum in French.
The Center is also launching WIT (Women In Transition), a series for women who have entered a new life phase such as empty nesting. Among the speakers are Lesley Jane Seymour, former editor of More magazine, and Mary Dell Harrington, founder of the online community “Grown and Flown.”
For those seeking one-of-a-kind experiences, take an insiders tour of Yale University with dinner at the members-only Mory’s Temple Bar and an acapella performance by the “Whiffenpoofs.” Food enthusiasts can sample the exotic tastes of the Himalayas and Southeast Asia in Queens or take a tour and cooking class at Blue Hills Stone Barns. There are also walking tours of Greenpoint and the Lower East Side art scenes.
And for fitness inside and out, Mindfulness, Weight Loss Through Hypnosis, Pickleball, Line Dancing, and Yogalates round out the Center’s offerings.
