A Call to Book Groups to Read!!

Read THE BOYS IN THE BOAT by Daniel James Brown now and join the community-wide discussion in April 2016!

The “One Book – One Community” Steering Committee is encouraging all book groups & book clubs in Larchmont, Mamaroneck and Rye Neck to read The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics by Daniel James Brown (Viking Books) by April, 2016.

In an effort to connect the tri-municipality through reading, the committee chose this inspirational book that appeals to both men & women alike, about the University of Washington’s 1936 eight-oar crew and their quest for an Olympic gold medal. Set in the depths of the Great Depression, this unlikely crew of working class boys showed the world - and Hitler’s Germany - what true grit really meant.

Throughout the month of April 2016, the Steering Committee is planning a host of exciting and interesting events throughout the community to celebrate this “one book.” Famous sports personalities, athletes, commentators, and more are coming to our communities as the themes of the book are brought to life. Community conversations will be encouraged through inspirational speakers and films.
