Dana H. Freyer, co-founder of the Global Partnership for Afghanistan, will launch the fall programs at the Larchmont Woman’s Club on September 16 with a talk about her organization, which is helping rural Afghan women and men create profitable orchards, vineyards and farm businesses, restore their devastated environment, and improve their families’ lives. Her nonprofit group also works to strengthen local institutions in their efforts to revitalize forests and improve water management.
Ms. Freyer, who recently returned from Afghanistan, is a retired partner of the law firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP in New York City, where she practiced for 32 years. She is considered by peers and other sources to be one of the world’s leading lawyers in international arbitration and one of the 50 top women litigators in America. From 1965-68, Ms. Freyer served as assistant to the Afghanistan Ambassador to the United Nations and is currently a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. In 2010 she was awarded the Purpose Prize and the Dr. Jean Mayer Global Citizenship Award for her work. Educated at Rye Neck High School, Connecticut College, and Columbia University Law School, she is a resident of Scarsdale.
