Chinese New Year @ Larchmont Public library

The Larchmont Public Library celebrates 2012 “The Year of the Dragon” by presenting a Chinese New Year program on Friday, February 3 at 10:00am. The program will be lead by Louis Russo. The program is free and everyone is welcome.

As “The Year of the Dragon”, 2012 is the perfect time to reflect China and its cultural influences, especially since China is in our news almost on a daily basis. The program will feature two video presentations and will provide in-depth discussion on Chinese history, art, music, dance (Shen Yun), literature and culture. Chinese history and culture has influenced the world for over 5,000 years and was heralded as a divine gift. The Chinese values of benevolence, honor, etiquette, wisdom and sincerity have inspired countless artists and poets.

The presentation will provide an overview to key Chinese dynasties (from the Tang Dynasty to the present), classic stories and many fascinating characters from Chinese literature. Chinese music and musical instruments will also be discussed. The program will also explain how Shen Yun uses Chinese dance to express Chinese civilization and its values. At the close of the presentation, there will be a question and answer session.
