Larchmont & Mamaroneck Center for Continuing Education Art Show

The Larchmont Public Library presents artworks by the students and faculty of the Larchmont and Mamaroneck Center for Continuing Education. The exhibit will be on display in the Oresman Gallery in the Larchmont Public Library from February 2 through February 27, 2011. The exhibit is free and open to everyone during normal library hours. There will be an artist’s reception for the faculty and students on Saturday, February 5, from 2:30pm to 4:00pm. The reception is also free and everyone is welcome.

The exhibit, featuring the work of students and teachers from the Larchmont & Mamaroneck Center for Continuing Education, will include paintings, drawings, jewelry, ceramics and textile arts.

The Center offers 10-15 art classes per semester, from beginning to advanced levels. Most of the teachers have worked with the Center for many years, and have degrees in art as well as education. Most have exhibited widely, including several who have exhibited internationally.

The center is a not-for-profit organization that has been a feature of the community since the 1920’s and has been independent from the Mamaroneck school district since 1973. It offers a wide range of courses designed to cultivate learning and enrich the lives of adults living in the Sound Shore community.  Approximately 2,500 students a year register for courses that, in addition to the art offerings, range from foreign languages to dance and exercise.

As part of the exhibit, the center will also host a reading at the Larchmont Library highlighting the work of students and teachers from the center’s writing classes, which include memoir and fiction. The reading will take place Thursday Feb. 10 from 7:00 to 8:00pm. The reading is free and everyone is invited.
