“On the Wall Poetry” on Exhibit at the Larchmont Public Library

The Larchmont Public Library presents ON THE WALL POETRY, a new exhibit of poetry and art by Bill Scher. Scher's work will be on display in the Oresman Gallery in the Larchmont Public Library from January 4 through January 30. The exhibit is free and open to everyone during normal library hours. There will be an artist's reception featuring Mr. Scher on Saturday, January 8, from 2:30pm to 4:00pm. The reception is also free and everyone is welcome.

Bill Scher spent 20 years in photography before deciding it was time to do something else. His creative energy led him to the world of poetry. Now, having published over 800 poems and 12 books of poetry across the last 30 years, Scher is bringing poetry to new audiences. ON THE WALL POETRY is the product of a belief of his that poetry should be accessible to people in ways other than through books. This new way of reading and experiencing poetry lifts the words off the book page and places them into a new medium, one that makes the experience of poetry a part of our everyday lives.

"Most art and photography exist in public spaces, so it is in front of us all the time," says Scher. "But poetry being relegated just to books is sought out by few readers. Hopefully, placing enlarged versions where they can be read easily will be the jump start that poetry needs". The 35 poems in this exhibit are the poet's humorous take on everyday experiences from relationships and fantasies to ironies and absurdities.

Bill Scher has lived in Larchmont for the past 39 years.
