Brigit: Ethereal Objects to Wear, Treasure and Give
Good, Green Fun in Mamaroneck!
MAMARONECK, NY. A touch of Ireland at Brigit’s St. Patrick’s Day party! From 11am to 4pm on St. Patrick’s Day, Brigit will host a party to commemorate the holiday where according to shop owner Breda Leahy, “everybody’s Irish”. Leahy’s shop will feature Irish music and food as well as St. Patrick’s Day themed face-painting for the wee ones! The party will also feature a charity raffle to benefit The American Red Cross, Cecily’s Fund, and Children of the Ganges. Prizes for this raffle were generously donated by Harmony Apothecary, Main Hosiery, Molly Spillanes, Peer2Peer Tutors, and Yogi’s Paw. The raffle will also feature a must have from the shop’s collection. Brigit’s environment of charitable giving and receiving is encapsulated by the store’s ongoing partnership with Cecily’s Fund and Children of the Ganges as well as this new bond with The American Red Cross.

Residents, visitors and long-time customers are welcome to join the festivities and raffle. Pictures will be taken of people in the most of green and the most unique outfits, at the end of the day a special prize will be given to the person with the most original outfit. There will also be a fairy surprise treasure box to delight wee pixies. Owner Breda Leahy remembers St. Patrick’s Day in her homeland “When I was growing up in Ireland the girls would braid green ribbons in their hair and everybody would pin shamrocks to their clothes, we would also wear heart badges with the colors on the Irish flag” said Leahy. “There were no big parades but we had get-togethers and parties like the one Brigit is hosting. It is such an honor to take part in this celebration of Irish culture in Mamaroneck”. The shop is home to many Irish trinkets from traditional sterling pendants from Ireland to jewelry boxes and hand mirrors adorned with Celtic knotwork. When asked what set Brigit apart Leahy said: “a tranquil, welcoming atmosphere in which the client can feel at one with herself [without feeling pressure to buy] I hope to create a sense of empowering women as both consumers and artisans, a karmic well intentioned cycle of giving and receiving, not simply a cold exchange.” Brigit’s unique philosophy has not gone unnoticed; women from all over the area come to Brigit in search of great deals and a relaxed shopping atmosphere. Olivia Summers, originally from South Carolina, makes the monthly commute from the city religiously. “I’d have to go on a weekend treasure hunt in the city, to find what would be on par, here, and at twice the price, and I just love the girls all of ‘em!”, she says in her thick Southern drawl. Brigit is also participating in the exciting growth of small businesses. “I’m excited to be in business during this current growth spurt that Mamaroneck is undergoing in an authentic, diverse manner, well supported by our Mayor said Leahy. It feels like a mini Greenwich village, non-contrived”. “We love having establishments like Brigit. It brings the spirit of the unique, which is what I wanted Mamaroneck Avenue to be. I’m a big supporter”, Mayor Norman Rosenblum said. Brigit is home to exquisite items handcrafted by talented women artists from around the globe, representing places as different as Mamaroneck and Morocco. Featuring leather belts woven by Moroccan mothers ($40-$165), Fair Trade jewelry from around the globe, and Tibetan hand-loomed shawls guaranteed to warm your heart ($50-$90). Brigit also features works by Ricci, Ellen Goulden, and photographer Jo Bryan. Brigit’s apparel is a mix of hand-picked pieces from “designers you can’t find in large department stores”.
