The Art of Yumiko Sue at the Larchmont Public Library

The Larchmont Public Library presents “A RI GA TU U” (meaning “thank you” in Japanese), an exhibit featuring the paintings of Yumiko Sue in the Library’s Oresman Gallery from September 1, through September 30, 2011. The exhibit is free and open to everyone during normal library hours.

Yumiko Sue was born in Kyoto, Japan, and immigrated to the USA in 1987. For eleven years, she worked as a hair stylist in a local salon. However, working with hair was not Ms. Sue’s true passion as she had always dreamed of working with animals. In order to pursue that dream, she started by volunteering her time to collect blankets and towels and other needed items, which she then donated to local animal shelters.

Two years ago she began to draw pictures of pets in an attempt to illustrate not only that pets and humans can co-exist happily, but also that there is hope that no pets will ever be destroyed by human hands. This continually inspires her art.

Ms. Sue will be donating the proceeds from the sale of her art to Pets Without Owners, which grew out of the profound need created by the massive earthquake and tsunami that destroyed much of her homeland on March 11, 2011. Yumiko Sue currently lives in Mamaroneck and works as an office manager in a local business.

For more information about the exhibit, call the library at (914) 834-2281 or visit the library online at www.larchmontlibrary.org. Please call or visit the library online for exhibit hours.
