The Larchmont Public Library's Oresman Gallery presents the unique photography of Scott Schnur. The exhibit, I KNOW IT FROM A HYMN, will be on display in the Oresman Gallery from January 4 through January 30. The exhibit is free and open to the public during normal library hours. There will be an artist's reception for Scott Schnur on Saturday, January 8, from 2:30pm to 4:00pm. Everyone is invited and the reception is also free.
Scott Schnur started taking photographs in summer camp when he was age 12. After only three days of having a camera in his hand, he was hooked. Throughout high school and as a student at Haverford College, Schnur is still just as hooked on photography as ever. Having recently graduated from college, he is working as a photographer's assistant, creating his own unique brand of photographic art.
Schnur aims to create photographs that showcase the effects of light (both natural and artificial) in space and that challenge the pre-conceived notions that viewers have of most photography. Schnur poses some questions about photography that can be difficult to answer, such as "Is the image on the paper real?" " Can any photograph be understood as a true, objective document or must all photographs be viewed as untruths?" Schnur's photography in this exhibit attempts to answer these questions.
