Former Westchester Day School Teacher Sentenced For Having Child Porn

Officials at the Mamaroneck school said he resigned after being arrested.

MAMARONECK, NY — A former teacher at the Westchester Day School in Mamaroneck was sentenced Wednesday for having child porn.

Preet Bharara, the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, said Lyle Kamlet will spend 39 months in prison after having pleaded guilty to one count of possessing child pornography.

Bharara said child pornography victimizes the most innocent and vulnerable in our communities.

“And when a former teacher like Lyle Kamlet possesses child pornography, it is doubly dangerous and disturbing,” he said.

According to information filed in White Plains federal court and public information, from about 2008 through 2010, Kamlet ordered child pornography videos, some of which he directed to be mailed to the school where he was then employed.

During a search of his residence, law enforcement seized those videos and also found home movies that he had created that contained images of naked children.

Kamlet, a Mount Vernon resident, is a rabbi, and parents of the school were notified after he was arrested.

School officials said that he resigned, and that they had received no complaints concerning his involvement in any illegal activities.
