Foundation Gives Grants to Mamaroneck Schools
This year 25 faculty-requested grants were awarded for innovative programs.

Twenty-five grants have been awarded to schools in the Mamaroneck district by the Mamaroneck Schools Foundation.
A total of $230,000 was handed out for the 2016-17 school year for all six schools in the district.
Funding for the grants will become available in April.

Among the projects the funding will pay for are for the creation of new outdoor learning spaces at two elementary schools, new books and eBooks, specialized science equipment, professional development for teachers in elementary math, art, physical education.
One of the largest grants will fund the creation of a new electronic music lab at Hommocks Middle School, giving the students the opportunity to compose, arrange and record their own music.

Superintendent Robert Shaps said the grants illustrate the innovations the schools strive for.
“The Foundation’s grants enable our students to experience vibrant programmatic and enrichment offerings that promote engaged and authentic learning,” he said.
The Mamaroneck Schools Foundation has been funding faculty-requested grants for 20 years.
