French American School to Add Fourth Campus

Parties dissolve their differences, bring new secondary school to industrial area in Village of Mamaroneck at Monday night's board meeting.

 

Despite a potential controversy raised at the , parties for the (FASNY) and landowners in the industrial zone where the school seeks a zoning variance ironed out their agreements and received unanimous approval from the board to bring around 120 high school students to the corner of Waverly Avenue and Fenimore Road.

Michael Zarin, attorney for the school, praised the positive discussions with the leaders of the opposition and lauded their “blossoming relationship.” The school reached an understanding with regarding any potential noise issue, said Zarin, but final approval on the special permit must come from other village bodies.

Andrew Spatz, whose family owns property within the district, praised the admirable conduct of the school and its representatives and told the board that all issues have been resolved. He noted that in this case, cooperation between village officials and the private sector helped achieve a common goal.

“The concerns and issues that we had have been addressed and they have truly raised the bar on the standard for all applicants in the future,” Spatz told Larchmont Patch. The most contentious issues included staging vehicles at Fenimore Road and capping the number of students that are able to attend the location.

“Business will go on as usual and we will coexist,” said Zarin after the meeting. “I knew that this could happen and now we’re working together to ensure that.”
