MAMARONECK, NY — Local Stop & Shops are giving shoppers the chance to support the health of their neighbors and the environment at the same time.

Stop & Shop's community bag program will benefit the Port Chester-based Colon Cancer Foundation for the month of September. A portion of the proceeds from reusable bags sold at stores in Mamaroneck, Harrison and Larchmont will be donated to the non-profit with a stated mission to reduce colorectal cancer and related deaths by supporting research, increasing public awareness and education.

Every $2.50 reusable Community Bag sold supports a non-profit local to the store in which it was purchased. Each month, at every Stop & Shop location, a different local non-profit is selected to benefit from the sale of these special reusable Community Bags.

The Colon Cancer Foundation was selected as the September beneficiary by the Mamaroneck store. The group will receive a $1 donation for every $2.50 reusable community bag purchased at the store throughout this month.

“This year has brought so many changes and difficulties for non-profits at the hyper-local level," Colon Cancer Foundation President Cindy Borassi said. “We are thrilled to be a part of such an innovative program that gives back to local nonprofits in tandem with helping to reduce single-use plastic.”
