Here’s How Much Utilities Cost New York Residents

A new report from Move.org finds which states pay the most and the least for utilities. How do your utility bills measure up?

Residents of Hawaii have the highest utility bill in the country, dishing out an average of $730 per month, according to a new report from Move.org.

Move.org broke down each state’s utility costs, covering electricity, natural gas, internet, cable and water. For electricity, natural gas and internet costs, the publication took into account state costs. For cable and water, where no state-by-state information was available, Move.org relied on national averages.

According to the report, New York was ranked as the fifth most expensive state for utilities.

Here’s Move.org’s breakdown of the average cost of utilities per month in New York:

  • Electricity: $173.84
  • Natural Gas: $102.76
  • Internet (60 Mbps): $60.71
  • Cable: $100 (national average)
  • Water: $40 (national average)
  • Total Cost: $477.31
