Joining The Pride: Larchmont Mamaroneck Lions Welcome 4 New Members

Some familiar faces will have more opportunities to lift the community and strengthen one of the Sound Shore's most enduring civic groups.

LARCHMONT/MAMARONECK, NY — The lion is the undisputed king of the jungle, but even lions find strength in numbers. The Larchmont Mamaroneck Lions have added to their already formidable reach as a force for good.

The Larchmont Mamaroneck Lions announced that they welcomed 4 new members: Joe Liberti (sponsor Diane Oldham), Gwen Salmo (sponsor Tania Weiss), Nicole Tuck (sponsor Jirandy Martinez) and Dan Zauderer (sponsor Phil Oldham).

The inductions took place at the club's member meeting at the Mamaroneck Library.

Joe Liberti, a teacher at Mamaroneck High School, is the founder of OCRA (Original Civic Research & Action), a 4-year program at the school. OCRA students identify issues and needs of the community and develop and implement community-based civic action projects with the assistance of local mentors.

Gwen Salmo is Special Events Coordinator for Friends of Karen, an organization providing emotional, financial and advocacy support for critically ill children and their families throughout the tri-state area at no cost to the families.

Nicole Turk is Director of Development for the Community Resource Center. CRC, founded in 1998, promotes the cultural, economic, educational and professional integration of immigrants to the community and advocates for those in need.

Dan Zauderer, is the founder of Grassroots Grocery, an anti-hunger non-profit. He developed a Community Refrigerator project in the Bronx, which served hundreds of people per year. He is working on bringing the project to Mamaroneck.

The Larchmont Mamaroneck Lions, celebrating their centennial this year, focus on supporting existing non-profit and community service groups by bringing community service leaders together to determine needs, solutions and resources. The LM Lions are part of Lions Clubs International, the world’s largest service organization of over 1.4 million members. The Lions signature cause is vision/blindness, along with hunger, the environment, diabetes, childhood cancer and the future of youth. They are signatories of the United Nations resolutions on women’s and refugee rights, and are currently active in Afghanistan & Ukrainian refugee resettlement. In addition, affordable housing is a local Lions priority.
