2 Arrested, Jailed in Car Chase Larceny

The men seem to have stolen electronic equipment and documents. One of them tried to flee, struck two officers.

A larceny report last Friday resulted in a car chase and two arrests, according to a statement released by the Village of Mamaroneck Police Department Tuesday.

On Aug. 27, at approximately 3:10 p.m., Radio Shack reported a larceny in progress. Shortly after, the store manager flagged down two officers and pointed out the suspects as the were fleeing northbound on Mamaroneck Avenue, the statement said.

The suspects attempted to enter a vehicle parked nearby. One of them, who was later identified as Ernest Saunders, 40, of the Bronx, was arrested at that time. The other one, Jamar Rashaud Saunders, 30, of Hamden, Conn., was able to enter the vehicle and escape, not without attempting to strike two officers.

Police say Jamar Rashaud Saunders was told to stop his vehicle numerous times. Upon seeing the suspect entering northbound 1-95, another officer followed him and initiated a vehicle stop, according to the statement. With the assistance of several officers, he was arrested.

Jamar Rashaud Saunders "was found to be in possession of several pieces of electronic equipment and several documents believed not to belong to either suspect," according to the statement.

An investigation will be conducted to determine the ownership of the items, police said.

Ernest Saunders was charged Petit Larceny (misdemeanor) and fourth-degree Criminal Possession of Stolen Property (felony), among other offenses. Jamar Saunders was charged with Petit Larceny, Attempted Assault on a Police Officer (felony), and numerous Vehicle and Traffic Law infractions.

Both men were remanded to the Westchester County Jail.
