Larchmont Budget Approved Under Two Percent Cap
The Larchmont 2012-13 budget was adopted by the board at Monday night's meeting.

At Monday night’s board meeting, the Larchmont Board of Trustees unanimously approved the 2012-13 budget, a parting gift from former mayor Josh Mandell, who prepared the budget before his departure from office in late March.
The budget was the same as the one presented to the , and comes in at a little over $20 million, with an $181K carryover balance for next year’s budget. The tax rate increase is 1.82 percent, slightly higher than the 1.36 originally estimated. The tax levy increase is slightly less than 1 percent.

“We did not take any money this year from our undesignated fund balance,” said Mayor Anne McAndrews, adding that several factors complicated this year’s budget calculations including a 24 percent increase in pension contributions, a 33 percent increase in property tax refunds and an 11 percent decrease in sales tax revenue.

Speaking on behalf of the Larchmont Budget Committee, Chair Paul Silverman praised the budget for staying within the two percent tax cap.
“While we were fortunate that the Lord didn’t visit us with the need for a lot of sale, we have also been counterbalanced with a lower tax base and a change in the economy for which we as a community have to recognize when we ask for expenses from the village.”
