Larchmont Flower Shop Adds Personal Touch to Bouquets

The Flower.n owner's designs have won her awards at American and Japanese flower shows.

Though Noriko Goroff’s Larchmont store, Flower.n, may be small—at 185 square feet, it qualifies as petite—its light décor framed by bright spots of floral brilliance lead you to believe it is much bigger.

Having previously lived in Tokyo—a city known for small living spaces—Goroff has designed her store with a warm, intimate feel in mind. Artful grass arrangements and a dispenser with lemon infused water neatly arranged on a tray table were on display as Cinnamon, Goroff’s Jack Russell Terrier, padded over purposefully to greet customers.

“My store is like you’re stopping by at a friend’s house and picking up flowers,” she said of the two-day old store.

Goroff ‘s training includes earning credentials in floral design from Parsons and the American Floral Art School as well as Constance Spry and Jane Packer Flower Schools in England.  Prior to opening up her shop, she was a clerk at the Larchmont Public Library for nearly a decade.

Over the years, Goroff has worked as a freelance floral designer, providing flowers for private parties and small weddings at restaurants in NYC, which she prefers to more large-scale events.

But working out of her garage was difficult, she said, which is one reason she was motivated to open the store.

“This is my studio so people can know what I’m doing,” she said, gesturing to the open windows.

Although she says her favorite flowers are tulips and daisies, the store’s selection will vary depending on what strikes her fancy during her weekly trip to the Flower Market District on 28th Street in New York.

Unlike a larger flower shop, Goroff can customize bouquets or flower arrangements for her clients.  Currently, she has a $12 “Tea Bouquet” designed as a hostess gift or an $8 “Chickadee Posy” for kids 10 and under to give to a grandparent, mother, teacher or friend.

The shop owner’s business philosophy is simple.

"I want people to have more flowers at home.”
