Larchmont Friends of the Family

Annually The Woman’s Club of Larchmont, Inc. distributes funds to various organizations in the community. Larchmont Friends of the Family was one such organization. This local volunteer organization was founded in 1997 by several compassionate Larchmont residents who had suffered severe illnesses in their own families. They found the generous support of their neighbors was invaluable during their time of crisis. This helped them appreciate how essential community support is during a time of a family upheaval. Since then, LFOF has been actively and compassionately helping local families through difficult times with local donations and over 200 volunteers. Their goal is to bring a sense of normalcy to local families that have experienced a medical crisis or loss. The assistance provided is tailored entirely to each family’s unique needs. This includes providing meals, daycare or camp for children, or assistance with medical bills.

Families who meet three criteria are eligible for assistance: 1.) Residence in the 10538-zip code or have other ties to Larchmont. Since Larchmont and Mamaroneck share many services, Mamaroneck residents are also eligible. 2.) Be Impacted by a medical crisis or loss of its members. 3.) Have dependent children living in the home.

The organization is a 501(c) (3) funded entirely by the generosity of the local community. At LFOF, no one is paid a salary, 90% of the donations goes directly to assist families, 6% to communications/marketing and the remaining 4% for insurance and cost of telephone hotline for referrals. The more funds they have the more they can do!

Volunteers are always needed to help families in crisis and to keep the organization strong. Volunteers help with communication, fundraising, cooking and meal coordination, event planning, and assisting families in other practical ways. Each family situation is different, so LFOF can put all kinds of talents and skills to good work. Along with your talents the only
