The Larchmont Public Library is pleased to announce that Linnea Moosmann has joined its staff of full-time employees as Children’s Librarian effective August 17.

Originally from Webster, NY (a suburb of Rochester), Linnea Moosmann received her Masters in Library Science (MLS) degree from SUNY Albany. Following graduation, she began as a Children’s Librarian at the Ossining Public Library where she worked for a little over a year. In November 2014 she went to work for the New York Public Library’s Bloomingdale Branch (Manhattan) where she remained until she accepted the position of Children’s Librarian at the Larchmont Public Library earlier this August.

Linnea aspired to become a librarian from a young age. I was a library kid. I did the summer reading game every year and I loitered there a lot as a teenager”, said Linnea. “It’s always been a happy and safe place. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of that? As for being a children’s librarian, I love being around kids. They are always learning new things and asking questions which forces you to do the same. It keeps you from getting old, plus we tend to share the same sense of humor.”

Becoming a Children’s Librarian has been a “good fit” for Linnea. “My greatest satisfaction comes from the kids, when they have strange and funny things to tell you, when they are happy to see you and especially if you recommended a book they liked. That’s the best feeling”, she said. Her guiding philosophy for working with children is to “have a sense of humor, not take yourself too seriously and to loose any sense of shame”.

When not working, Linnea enjoys hiking and travel and she is a self-confessed audiobook nerd.

Since the opening of the Burchell Children’s Room at the Larchmont Public Library in 2010, the Children’s Room has become a bustling, fun place for children and families alike. The number of programs offered by the dynamic Children’s Room staff is at an all-time high as is attendance. We are very excited to have hired someone with such innovative programming ideas and an extreme passion for children’s literature”, said Rebecca Teglas, Head of Children’s Services. “Having Linnea here will help us take the children’s room to a whole new level”. While becoming a Children’s Librarian has been a “good fit” for Linnea Moosmann, she will undoubtedly be an equally “good fit” for the Burchell Children’s Room.
