Mamaroneck Builders' Project Lands On Cover of Architectural Digest

Taconic Builders, located in Mamaroneck., worked on an apartment that was featured on the front page of Architectural Digest's March 2011 "Age of Elegance" issue.

Representing a towering achievement for Mamaroneck-based Taconic Builders, an apartment project that the company worked on landed on the front cover of the iconic Architectural Digest, in new editor-in-chief Margaret Russell’s debut issue.

The apartment—which overlooks Central Park from a high vantage point in a luxury building— was an empty shell when Taconic accepted the project.   Working with architect Oscar Shamamian and the designer Michael Smith, Taconic reconstructed the apartment with a “high level of finishes,” according to Gerry Holbrook, one of the founding partners of Taconic.

Smith, who is good friends with Russell, suggested featuring the apartment project in the magazine.

Calling the apartment “Versailles in the Sky” in the "Rare and Refined" article, Smith appears to accurately sum up the interior’s resemblance to the worldly, rarefied and indulgent atmosphere of the French palace.

In a seemingly exhaustive global span, Taconic’s staff obtained materials such as a German silver—a nickel copper alloy—floor that was fashioned and assembled in India and brokered through a London supplier.  Additionally, antique lacquer panels were sourced in France and adapted for use on walls and doors.  Other luxurious materials utilized in the interior were gold leaf, Italian marble, and leather flooring.
