The Village of Mamaroneck Democratic (VMD) Party has announced its candidates for both mayor and trustee in November's upcoming election, they announced last week.
Newcomer Clark Neuringer—an architect who has lived in the village for 38 years—will be running for the mayor's open seat. According to a press release sent out by the VMD, "Neuringer has been an appointed member of every land use board/commission in the village, including service as chair of the Board of Architectural Review (BAR); member of the Coastal Zone Management Commission (CZMC); member of the Planning Board; member (and chair) of the Zoning Board of Appeals; and current member of the Harbor and Coastal Zone Management Commission (HCZMC)."
He has also served as chair of the Industrial Area Revitalization Task Force and member of other ad hoc building committees in the village. He has participated as an alternate member of the Westchester County Housing Implementation Commission and is a board member of the Washingtonville Housing Alliance and the Orienta Point Association.
Neuringer also worked closely with David and Kinuyo Witt, a Mamaroneck family that were displaced from their home due to what they alleged was selective enforcement of building codes in the village. They are now suing the village after their home was foreclosed on.
Newcomer Kerry Stein—a 21-year village resident and managing director at Lloyds Bank—will run for the open trustee seat. According to the release, Stein has coached lacrosse for a decade with the Larchmont-Mamaroneck Youth League and is currently co-coaching the Mamaroneck Blackhawks U-14 Travel soccer team. Stein is a trustee of Franklin Pierce University (vice-chair) as well as a member of the Emelin Theatre Advisory board. He has been married for 23 years and has a son in eight grade at the Hommocks, and a daughter in eleventh grade at the Mamaroneck High School (MHS).
"Both men are very well known and well liked in the community," said Tom Murphy, leader of the Nominating Committee.
"The seven person Nominating Committee worked diligently to interview nine candidates who sought positions. We've rarely had so many excellent and willing volunteers to choose from."
VMD Party Chair Elizabeth Saenger praised Murphy for his skills in uniting groups in the village to come up with candidates.
"Tom's leadership was the glue that held everyone together for such fine results," she said, "We are thrilled!"
