Mamaroneck Denies 16-Year-Old Admission to High School

The child moved with his family from Guatemala to New Rochelle and then moved within the Mamaroneck Union Free School District.

MAMARONECK, NY - School officials said a 16-year-old who moved to Larchmont from Guatemala is not eligible to attend high school in Mamaroneck because he completed high school or its equivalent in his native country.

The New York Civil Liberties Union is helping the child’s mother in an appeal to New York State’s Education Department, according to an article in the Journal News.

On its website, NYCLU said the boy, who is identified only as C.M., moved with his family from New Rochelle to Larchmont.
