On Friday October 18th, members of District 3S gathered at their annual Fall Meeting. The event welcomed 6 different schools and over 50 students to Lakeland High School. The successful evening was full of workshops, and interviews for district positions. Every FBLA member was welcomed by the District Vice President, Sandra Read, who opened the event with a message to every member in attendance in the schools auditorium. Ms. Read additionally laid out the activities that would occur throughout the evening. The American Red Cross was proudly revealed as the 2014-2015 New York State charity.
Matthew Read, who works as a senior associate for Gensler, started off the afternoon with a keynote speech emphasizing the importance of business relationships and urging good communication in everyone’s business ethics. He stated how important good work principles were to him in an architectural firm. Following the ceremony, members gathered into classrooms for a range of different enriching workshops. Workshops were held by charity representatives, state officers and Lakeland High School students. These included a workshop on basic FBLA knowledge, publicity and an American Red Cross presentation. Students came out of these workshops with new knowledge as well as a fulfilling interaction with fellow FBLA members. After attending four workshops, everyone headed towards the school cafeteria where a dinner was held for members and advisors. 16 students from the various schools in attendance were interviewed for district positions. State officers, Vamshi Adimulam and Noah Ulman came from their own districts to participate in the event. Towards the end of the evening two representatives from each school competed in the Battle of the Best. The district officers were then announced by Sandra Read before the ceremony came to an end. Every member in attendance left with a significant FBLA experience, and will enjoy the Spring District meeting later this year.
