Mamaroneck Gets $325K Sandy Relief Check From FEMA

The Village of Mamaroneck Board of Trustees agreed to utilize a $325K FEMA check for storm-related damage costs at Monday's board meeting.

Nearly six months since Superstorm Sandy ravaged the East Coast, the Village of Mamaroneck just received their first reimbursement check from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for $325K, a 75 percent share of the time and expense village workers endured for clean up of debris due to the hurricane.

The village will now be reimbursed for straight-time payments—costs incurred during a weekday work schedule—as opposed to past years, when they were not.

"We recommend that we use this $325K to partially fund our expenses which right now total about $400 to $500K I believe," said Assistant Village Manager Dan Sarnoff.

Sarnoff said that the state had still not announced their intention to reimburse the village for 12.5 percent of storm-related damages as they have done in the past.

The board passed the resolution unanimously.
