Mamaroneck Girls Volleyball Swept by Scarsdale

The learning process for the Mamaroneck girls volleyball team continued against Scarsdale on Tuesday afternoon.

At the Hommocks Middle School Gym, Scarsdale defeated Mamaroneck 3-0 by scores of 25-7, 25-17 and 25-15 in each game.

In the early going, Scarsdale really had its game in top form as everything was going its way as the Raiders raced out ahead early in the first game.

Mamaroneck got some points back as the game went along, but Scarsdale continued to play with a lot of confidence and Mamaroneck fell behind right away by losing the first game.

Mamaroneck Head Coach Dina Borbon didn't think her team was confident enough in its abilities.

"I feel like sometimes they're not confident in themselves and they don't anticipate the ball," she said. "They need to anticipate the ball better, but I think it's about lack of confidence sometimes."

The second and third games were much more competitive. Mamaroneck even took early leads in both games.

But in the end, the result was the same as Scarsdale was able to come away with a sweep.

In the losing effort, Mamaroneck's Sarah Fedorchick had 3 kills, 2 aces, 3 digs and 2 block as well.

Going forward, Borbon talked about the fact that this team is still young and learning and that with time, the future is looking bright for volleyball at Mamaroneck.

"This is a team without a lot of experience," she said. "I only have two girls who have played varsity before [as starters]. They have improved tremendously since the beginning of the year and they can only go up from here."

Scarsdale Head Coach Ann Marie Nee said she was impressed with her team's passing ability throughout the win.

"Today, our passing was very good," Nee said.  "We have a tendency to sometimes let out guard down and they didn't do that today and that was the most important thing."

For Scarsdale, leading the way was Captain Emma Fox, who had 8 kills and 4 assists and also 4 aces.

Coach Nee mentioned Fox when talking about the players on her team who had impressed her during the game.

"Emma Fox had a lot of kills and she played center for the first set and outside hitter for the second set, so she really proved her versatility," she said.
