Mamaroneck Passes Hotel Tax

Despite its difficulty getting pushed through the state's Assembly Ways and Means Committee nearly two years ago, NY Senator George Latimer's (D-37) bill to grant the Village of Mamaroneck legislative authority to levy a room occupancy tax was finally approved.  

The occupancy tax—also known as a "bed tax"—would allow the village to charge up to a three percent daily room rate at local hotels/motels, which could net an additional $40K annually in revenue.

"It will do something that this municipality and and everyone else needs, which is revenue," said Mayor Norm Rosenblum.

The village has petitioned Latimer to give it the authority to leverage the tax for several years now. Other Westchester communities that have the tax include New Rochelle, Rye, Rye Brook and White Plains.

The resolution to enact the tax as local law was approved unanimously by the Board.
