Mamaroneck Police Blotters: Watch Out for Thieves

In total, there were three robberies and four burglaries in the town. A larceny report led to car chase and felony charges.

The Town of Mamaroneck Police Department investigated the following incidents between Aug. 24 and 31:

Robbery

- A 25-year-old male from Larchmont told police that on Aug. 31, at approximately 2:24 a.m., he was assaulted and robbed by three males while on the 2500 block of Boston Post Road. The men struck him with their fists, causing minor injuries, and took $18 and his cell phone (valued at $200) out of his jeans pockets. The victim described the perpetrators as three black males between 5-foot-11 and 6-foot-3 in height. The victim was taken to Sound Shore Medical Center for evaluation.

- On Aug. 29, at approximately 11:50 p.m., a 17-year-old male from the Town of Mamaroneck was in front of a Nancy Lane home when two males approached him from behind, held him and removed one iPod and one cell phone, each valued at $300, from his pants pockets, the victim told police. One perpetrator was described as being approximately 25 years old, black, 5-foot-10 in height, with facial hair, thin build, and wearing a red sweatshirt and dark shorts. The second man was described as being approximately 25 years old, black, 6 feet tall, with a shaved head, medium build, and wearing a white t-shirt and dark cargo pants.

Burglary

- A burglary was reported by a Maple Hill Drive resident, who stated that between Aug. 6 and 28, someone entered the home, apparently through a window, and ransacked a bedroom. The perpetrator is unknown and the complainants were not able to determine if anything was taken, police said.

-Residents of a North Chatsworth home reported that a $1,200 glass table was taken from inside the apartment between Aug. 6 and 27. The residents were in the process of moving out and had left some items in that location. When they returned days later, the table was missing, they told police.

Motor vehicle accident

On Aug. 30, at approximately 6 a.m., the driver of vehicle 1 states that she was traveling southbound on Murray Avenue when an animal ran into the roadway, causing her to swerve and strike the rear of vehicle 2, which was parked. The driver of vehicle 1, a 27-year-old Larchmont resident, had minor bleeding to her lower lip and pain in her left leg, according to police reports. She was checked by LVAC at the scene and refused medical attention.

Petit larceny

A 48-year-old female from New Rochelle was arrested on Aug. 24 for allegedly stealing six deodorants and two razors from the CVS Pharmacy located at 2444 Boston Post Road. She was stopped by an officer outside of the store. The items had a total value of approximately $50.

Identity theft

Fraud charges were made in relation to an identity theft case that resulted in transactions in the amount of approximately $535 and took place between Aug. 11 and 20.

In addition, police investigated:

- 1 hit & run

 

The Village of Mamaroneck Police Department investigated the following incidents between Aug. 23 and 30:

Robbery

An 18-year-old male told police he was confronted by several male parties while walking on Palmer Avenue and Fenimore Road at approximately 11:53 p.m. on Aug. 29. Personal property was taken, and the victim was transported to Sound Shore Medical Center for minor injuries, police said.

Burglary

-       Between Aug. 26 and 27, unknown parties entered a residence on the 100 block of West Boston Post Road, and took property valued at approximately $600. No one was in the apartment at the time. The matter is under investigation and police would not disclose how the parties gained entry.

-       Between Aug. 28 and 30, cash and jewelry were taken from a commercial property on Fayette Avenue. There were signs of forced entry, detectives said.

Unlawfully dealing with a child

A 19-year-old female was charged with Unlawfully Dealing with a Child after police went to her Center Avenue home on a report of a noise complaint. Upon arrival, police uncovered an under-age drinking party involving youths between the ages of 18 and 20. The subject's parents were not home, police said.

Drug offense

On Aug. 26, at approximately 8:20 a.m., a 37-year-old female from Brooklyn was charged with Driving While Ability Impaired Under Drugs after allegedly crashing into a tree on Lawn Terrace. Police specified that the drugs were prescription medication.

DWI

A 49-year-old male from Larchmont was arrested on Aug. 28 for driving while intoxicated. The man was stopped for committing a traffic infraction on Gertrude Avenue at approximately 11:15 p.m. He was subsequently charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Refusing to Submit to a Chemical Test.

Arrest

A male fitting the description of a person wanted by the Harrison Police Department was arrested on Aug. 25 on Mamaroneck Avenue. The Harrison Police Department took possession of the subject.

Domestic incident

A 26-year-old male from the village was charged with harassment, a violation, after being involved in a domestic incident on Aug. 29.

Disorderly conduct

A 38-year-old male from the Bronx was arrested for disorderly conduct on Aug. 29 after being given a traffic infraction on the 200 block of Mamaroneck Avenue.

Larceny

-       Between Aug. 22 and 23, electric equipment valued at approximately $250 was taken from a commercial building on Waverly Avenue.

-       Between Aug. 22 and 23, license plates were taken from a vehicle parked on Bleeker Avenue.

-       A larceny case in which personal property was taken from a Ward Avenue residence between June 18 and Aug. 21 is currently being investigated by the police department. No further information is available.

-       A boat owner told police that between Aug. 22 and 27, a party or parties boarded his boat and removed property valued at approximately $900. The boat's location at the time of the incident was not disclosed.

-       A larceny at Radio Shack, which led to two arrests, is currently being investigated by the police department. Click here to read the full story.

Fraud

-       On Aug. 27, a party reported being given a fraudulent check for $3,000, which s/he attempted to cash at TD Bank.

-       An 82-year-old female was part of a suspicious incident involving a phone scam. The village resident wired money totaling approximately $25,000 to Jamaica on several occasions over the course of one week after being promised lottery winnings.

Criminal mischief

-       The driver side window of a vehicle parked on East Boston Post Road was damaged between Aug. 28 and 29. No items were reported missing.

-       There were two reports of graffiti on buildings.

Boat accident

On Aug. 28, a sailboat struck a docked powerboat at Nichols Yacht Yard. Only property damage was reported.

Animal complaint

- On Aug. 24, at approximately 8 p.m., a caller reported that a possibly rabid raccoon was in front of a Travers Avenue home. Police officers reported that the raccoon was no longer at that location upon arrival.

- On Aug. 25, at approximately 9:45 a.m., a black pitbull with white feet, a white strip under its neck and a blue collar was taken by a volunteer to the New Rochelle Humane Society after a party reported it as lost.

Tree down

On Aug. 28, a caller advised that a tree was down over the river and onto his Willow Street property. The Department of Public Works was notified.
