Mamaroneck Prohibits Puppy Mill Dogs Being Sold
Pet stores can sell dogs or cats that come from shelters.

No more dogs from puppy mills can be sold in Village of Mamaroneck pet stores.
The village board approved a law Monday that will, however, allow stores to sell animals from shelters, according to an article on News12.com.
Paula Krenkel, president of Harrison-based Pet Rescue, said in a prepared statement the law was the first of its kind in New York, though similar legislation has been enacted in other parts of the country.

“Here at Pet Rescue we know well the horrors of puppy mills and have worked hard to save as many victims as we could,” she said.
“Pet Rescue applauds this new law and hope it sets first a statewide and then nationwide precedent,” Krenkel said.
