Tom Murphy kicked off his campaign for County Legislator on June 22nd at a fundraiser at the Mamaroneck home of Ira Milstein, according to a release from Murphy's office. The event was hosted by Milstein and Bob Goodman, also of Mamaroneck.
Murphy, who is running against Rye City Councilwoman Catherine Parker in a Democratic primary, spoke of his service on the Mamaroneck Village Board for six years where he served as both a member of the Democratic majority and also as the lone Democrat for two years, and, according to the statement his accomplishments include" spearheading the settlement of federal lawsuits that threatened to cripple the Village’s finances, televising zoning and planning board meetings, and protecting the character of Mamaroneck’s neighborhoods from out of character development."
Milstein recalled working with Murphy on setting up The Harbor Island Conservancy and on a task force of local lawyers Murphy formed that analyzed what the release described as "out of control legal costs" and made recommendations to save tax dollars by reducing the costs of litigation and hiring a full-time Village attorney rather than outside lawyers.
