Mamaroneck Routs Rye Town/Harrison

The Mamaroneck hockey team held Rye Town/Harrison to only eight shots on goal in an 8-0 blowout.

Joe Naclerio finished the night with a hat trick as the Mamaroneck Tigers  scored early and often in an 8-0 route of the Rye Town/Harrison Titans Saturday night at the Hommocks Park Ice Rink.

A power play goal by Naclerio only four minutes into the game opened the scoring for Mamaroneck.  That goal would be all the Tigers needed on the night, as a great defensive effort limited Rye Town/Harrison to only eight shots on goal.

The Rye Town/Harrison strategy was very evident throughout the first period as the Titans focused on playing defense in an attempt to hang with a bigger, deeper and faster Mamaroneck team.

"Most of the first period our guys did a pretty good job of just chipping the puck out, trying to slow the game down," said Harrison C0-Head Coach Rob Striar.  "We have a young team combined with a bunch of injuries playing against probably, I think they're top three in the state."

Harrison kept the score at 2-0 until the final 35 seconds of the first period when Mamaroneck scored two goals to put the game out of reach.

"That really turned it around, we knew we were going to win the game then," said Mamaroneck junior Scott Hagan.  "We knew we could put them away right there and then."

That's exactly what happened.  Mamaroneck added three more goals in the second period and the route was on.

"We had three really good practices this week and I thought we did some nice things staying wide, we moved the puck real well, the defense stayed back, we didn't give them many shots which was good and we threw the puck on the net," said Mamaroneck Head Coach Mike Chiapparelli.  "It was nice."

Mamaroneck put 40 shots on goal, testing Titans sophomore goalie Jaime Ketchabaw, who made several great saves in a valiant effort.

"It's hard looking at any game that you lose 8-0 and saying that you're goalie did a great job, but he did a great job tonight," Striar said of his young goalie.  "They're an exceptional hockey team."

Mamaroneck was simply the stronger team from start to finish Saturday, beating Rye Town/Harrison to loose pucks and controlling the game while earning the shutout.

"This builds our confidence a lot," said Hagan.  "We know we can score this many goals every game if we really put our hearts into the game."
