The letter below was submitted by Dr. Robert Shaps, Mamaroneck School superintendent, in response to today's shooting incident in CT.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are deeply saddened by the incident that took place today at the
Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT.  Our hearts go out to all

Talking to our children about this kind of horrific act is difficult,
but they should know that the adults in their lives are always most
concerned with doing everything possible to protect them and keep them
safe.  Click here for tips from the National Association of School
Psychologists on talking to children about their fears and helping them
to feel secure during these times of crisis.

When a tragedy strikes - and in this case so close to home - it's
important to reflect on the measures we are taking in our own district
and how we would potentially respond in a crisis.  Our safety team meets
regularly to review safety policies and procedures, and the process is
ongoing.

Please pay close attention to any concerns that your children express,
and,  as always, our counseling staff is available to provide support
for your child if needed.
