Brooklyn-based A-1 Construction & Renovation is suing the Mamaroneck School District for wrongful termination of its contract based on the grounds the company was discriminated against, according to The Journal News.

The company is owned by Pakistani native Rana Usmani, and it was hired last year to do extensive stair and other work at Murray Avenue School for more than $550,000. The company has not completed the work, school district officials say, and as such the contract was terminated.

A-1 Construction claims the district’s project manager George McNally created “adversarial working environment,” according to The Journal News, in part because many of the construction company’s employees are Muslim.

The school system issued a statement Wednesday in response to the lawsuit, which can be read by clicking here.
