New Mixed with Old Favorites at Mamaroneck's Toy Box

The store will not be open on Thanksgiving, the owner says.

No where is the gift-giving season more in full swing than at Mamaroneck's Toy Box.

Owner Steve Josephson said he is holding a 35 percent off sale from Sunday, November 24 to Sunday, December 1.

He was emphatic that his store would not be open Thanksgiving Day, bucking the trend that some big box stores have started.

"I'm a family person," Josephson. "We will close Wednesday, November 27 at 7 p.m. and reopen Friday, November 29 at 9 a.m."

There are hot items this year, Josephson said, that include some new things and a few things from the past.

New on the wish list this season is Rainbow Loom, which lets children make colorful rubber band bracelets, he said.

Also new this year are Ever After High dolls which are the successors to Monster High dolls, Josephson said.

Micro-robotic creatures called Hexbugs are sure to be big sellers, he said. The battery-operated toys react to touch and sound.

Making a return to the shelves for the 2013 holidays are such things as Shrinky Dinks, Simon game and Lava lamps, Josephson said.

"What goes around comes back around," he said.
