On the Forefront of Geekdom: New Comic Book Shop to Plant Roots in Mamaroneck

Modern Myths Comics & Games brings geek culture to Mamaroneck, NY!

Modern Myths, Inc., an independent specialty retailer of comic books, graphic novels, and hobby games, announced the signing of a lease for a new storefront at 822 Mamaroneck Ave., Mamaroneck. The store will feature the cutting edge of “geek culture”, with new releases and back issue comic books, a full line of trade paperback and graphic novels, and a complete line of hobby games, including European board games like Settlers of Catan and role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons, as well as related merchandise and accessories.

“Mamaroneck is the perfect place for our expansion,” said Jim Crocker, president of Modern Myths, Inc. and generalmanager of the new shop. “From our very first visit, we were really impressed with the vibrant local business environment. The presence of other independent specialty retailers, including two great local toy stores, felt like a perfect fit given the unique pop culture products we've carried for a decade now.”

Modern Myths won't be just a place to buy books and games, however. The spacious new shop will feature social meeting space for casual games, organized tournaments, artist and author signings, art and design classes, even Dungeons & Dragons' birthday parties.

“We're well aware we're competing with dozens of other businesses, including sporting events, video games, and even cable TV for that precious bit of fun time everyone has,” notes Crocker. “We're hoping that, by making Modern Myths more than just a store, but a community in its own right, we'll give both longtime fans and curious newcomers a reason not just to stop by, but to stay a while and have some fun together.”

Modern Myths' Mamaroneck location is currently under construction, and Crocker, and expects to be ready to open for business in September: “We're planning on being open a few weeks to get to know our new customers and make sure we're up to speed, so that we can host a really spectacular Grand Opening party in late October. This is the best birthday present for our tenth anniversary as a company that I could imagine.”

Modern Myths, Inc. was founded in 2002 in Northampton, MA as Modern Myths, LLC. The Northampton shop will celebrate its tenth anniversary in business on Friday, Sept. 21, 2012.
