Outdoor Sculptures Unveiled in Mamaroneck
They were donated by a Village of Mamaroneck Arts Council member.
MAMARONECK, NY - Two new sculptures were recently unveiled in Mamaroneck, kicking off a new arts initiative to bring more creative works to outdoor spaces.
The works, by New Paltz, Ulster County, artist Ernest Shaw, were donated by Village of Mamaroneck Arts Council member Michael Rosenbaum and are located on a grassy space at Prospect Avenue and Library Lane, close by the Mamaroneck Public Library and Emelin Theatre.

At the unveiling ceremony, arts council Chairwoman Solange De Santis announced the start of a program to bring more art to the village’s open space.
“The Arts Council’s new public art initiative is called ‘Arts Live,’ ” she said. “This significant donation means the arts are alive and well in the Village of Mamaroneck, both for residents and visitors.”

Each of the sculptures is marked with a plaque containing a statement from Shaw on the importance of art.
The sculptures are Jacob’s Ladder, constructed of weathered steel with roughly broken slabs of stone, and an untitled work from Shaw’s “Ruins” series, made entirely of weathered steel.
