Travel Advisory: Boston Post Road Construction Lane Closures

MAMARONECK, NY — The ongoing bridge replacement work over the Mamaroneck River will once again require lane closures this week.

Beginning Monday and continuing through Friday night, the roadway construction will take place from 9 a.m. to midnight, weather permitting. One lane of traffic is expected to remain open in each direction during the work.

During the construction, at least one lane will remain closed on the major Westchester County traffic artery in Mamaroneck. The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) issued an alert to motorists about potential delays. One lane of US Route 1 (Boston Post Road) northbound and southbound will be closed with flaggers on scene for traffic control, according to NYSDOT.

Backups should be expected between Library Lane and Spruce Street during the bridge work.

The DOT said lane closures are necessary to reinforce and strengthen the stone arch bridge over the Mamaroneck River. The bridge replacement project is part of a capital improvement initiative in Westchester County. The initiative known as the "Lower Westchester Bridge Bundle" also includes the replacement of the East Lincoln Avenue bridge in Mount Vernon and the Saw Mill River Parkway bridges.

The agency is asking drivers to slow down and drive responsibly in the work zone. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license, NYSDOT officials remind drivers.
