Tree Appreciation blog #9 Maginificent trees.....

Magnificent trees can be found at the reserve where once Rockwood Hall stood, in Sleepy Hollow, Rockwood Road, behind New York Life.
As one enter the reserve, soon a huge weeping beech, that has a cathedral like feel, holds you in its spell. Large limbs spread everywhere, bows have turned into little seats.... The sort of tree that has compelled many people, lovers etc. to carve their name into the bark. Despite these injuries the tree, thank goodness, survived and now is a monument in time...

Walking on and up towards the space where Rockwood Hall no more is, are trees that dominate the site: two weeping hemlocks and a stout sycamore with an extraordinary stem foot. The light and grey flecked bark of the tree attracts the eye and draws you nearer to admire the tree from close by....
From here you also get an unparalleled view of the Hudson River, with the Tappan Zee brige in the background.

There are a few short trails on the reserve and these are also lined with large park trees such as lindens, maples and more beech.....

Half an hour's drive will bring you there. Perfect outing.
