When Do Schools Close, Reopen for Holidays 2016 in Mamaroneck, Rye Neck?

MAMARONECK, NY — It's just the way the calendar falls in 2016. Christmas Eve is on a Saturday; Hanukkah is on a Sunday; New Year's Day is on a Sunday.

And that's why school districts holiday vacations seem a little shorter than usual. For the Mamaroneck schools, there will be no classes from Dec. 22 through Jan. 2.

For the Rye Neck schools, the last day of school is Dec. 23. Then Jan. 2 is the national holiday, and there you are, the end! School resumes Jan. 3, 2017.

Then it's a cold six weeks till the next vacation:

• Mamaroneck: Feb. 20-24
• Rye Neck: Feb. 20-24
