Why Murphy Will Run For Village Of Mamaroneck Mayor One Last Time
"We want to be a Village where everyone's voice is heard," Mayor Murphy writes."Especially those voices that were long ignored or silenced."

MAMARONECK, NY — Popular Village of Mamaroneck Mayor Tom Murphy announced on Monday that he will seek his final term as the village's highest elected official.
In his five years in office, Murphy has helped to usher the village through some of the most challenging times in its history, including deadly flooding, a global pandemic and a national economic crisis.
Mayor Murphy explains in his own words why he decided to seek re-election and why this will be his final term.

This January, I completed my fifth year as Mayor. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve you all, and the Village that I love.
Since I assumed office, the Village of Mamaroneck has faced many challenges. We experienced record breaking catastrophic flooding, followed by the best recovery from tragedy in our history. We faced Covid as a united community, sharing resources, goodwill, and hope with every resident of our Village who needed a hand.

We should all be proud of these efforts. They show an esprit de corps that carried us through adversity and strengthened our bonds with each other. We looked out for one another and no kid in Mamaroneck went to be hungry during those difficult days.
Due to a change in New York State Law that significantly moves up the petitioning date to get on the election ballot, elected officials have to decide on whether to run for office much earlier than in past years.
I have given the decision much thought and I have decided to run for one more term as Village of Mamaroneck Mayor. Much has been accomplished in my tenure (more on that at a later time) but there is much more that needs to be done. Since the new Board of Trustees members were seated in December, there is renewed energy and a determination to get things done in Mamaroneck. No longer is "process" being allowed to be a tool to thwart progress.
As a result, I too am reinvigorated and excited at this opportunity to work with new Board members on issues that matter to us all, including flooding, pedestrian safety, affordable housing, public safety, and making Mamaroneck a more fair and more equitable community for everyone. We want to be a Village where everyone’s voice is heard, especially those voices that were long ignored or silenced.
This will be the last election I run in Mamaroneck. I believe that four terms are more than enough and, by being upfront with my intentions, it gives other talented folks the time to plan for the future.
I look forward to running on the Democratic and Working Families Party line but I promise to work for and listen to everyone no matter what their political affiliation.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for giving me the honor of serving as Mayor these past five years.
Respectfully,
Tom Murphy
Mayor, Village of Mamaroneck
