“The Town Board is taking a long-term approach to strategic planning and resident input is critical to our efforts,” said to Town Supervisor Nancy Seligson. “Our local government needs to respond to growing pressures, such as the state-imposed property tax cap levy, regulatory mandates, high worker pension and health care costs, and severe revenue reductions.  To be effective, we need input from our residents.”

The Town of Mamaroneck collects taxes for the town, schools, and county.  Only 20 percent of taxes stay within the town to provide essential services, including police and fire protection, ambulance response, recreation, town court operations, garbage collection, highway maintenance, snow removal, community and senior services, conservation, assessment and tax collection, building services, public water and sewers, code enforcement and permits, planning and zoning.

The survey asks residents to weigh in on such topics as town character, living conditions, transportation, housing, recreation, services, use of property taxes, collaboration among the rown and the villages of Mamaroneck and Larchmont, and access to Town officials.

The Town’s last survey was conducted in 2004, according to Seligson.

“We made several changes based on the input we received at that time,” she said. “We upgraded our streetlights, improved recreational services, and became more responsive to our residents. It’s time to find out what our residents want from us in 2012 and in the years to come.”

The survey is available online at www.townofmamaroneck.org from July 18th through September 3rd.  Paper copies can be requested by calling the Town Supervisor’s office at 914-381-7805.
