WJCI Awards Eight More Grants to Fund Afghan Resettlement
Since January, Westchester Jewish Coalition for Immigration (WJCI) has made $80,000 in grants to support 15 Afghan refugee Host Groups
Since January, Westchester Jewish Coalition for Immigration (WJCI) has made $80,000 in grants to support 15 Afghan refugee Host Groups in Westchester and Rockland counties. Some of the Host Groups were able to help more than one family! This second tranche of grants, provided by funding from UJA-Federation of New York and The Shapiro Foundation, went to the following groups, many of which are coalitions of individuals, faith-based organizations, college students, and activists, totaling nearly 550 volunteers:
- Afghan Circle of the Hudson Valley - Ulster County: Kingston, Saugerties, Woodstock, New Paltz
- Fair Street Reformed Church Welcome Team - Kingston
- Maple Ridgederhof - Ulster Park
- Neighbors for Refugees - Larchmont/Mamaroneck
- Northwest Bronx Coalition for Refugees
- Vassar Temple Welcome Circle - Poughkeepsie
- Woodstock Refugee Network - Woodstock
- Westchester Refugee Coalition
The program supports the immediate needs of our new neighbors as they restart their lives following their evacuation from Afghanistan. Details about the microgrant program, and a complete list, are available at www.wjci.org.
"WJCI’s matching microgrants program continues to serve as a substantial resource to advance refugee resettlement across and beyond the County," said Holly Rosen Fink. "These strategic investments have helped bring a significant number of Afghan refugees to Westchester.

WJCI is an entirely volunteer-run, non-partisan organization that envisions the United States as a place where refugees, asylum seekers, and other immigrants can live in safety and dignity. The organization includes Conservative, Orthodox, Reconstructionist, Reform, non-denominational and unaffiliated Jews from around the Westchester region and partners with institutions and individuals of all faiths who assist and act on behalf of immigrants and refugees. In 2022, WJCI officially launched its expanded mission to engage Westchester's Jewish community in social action, advocacy, and education around the issue of immigration and refugees.
