25 Best Long Island High Schools: U.S. News Rankings 2016

U.S. News and World Report has just released its 2016 rankings of the best public high schools in the nation and Long Island is well represented.

Of the top 50 high schools in New York, 12 of them are on Long Island, according to the rankings. That's up from 11 Long Island schools in the top 50 in the 2015 rankings.

The No. 1 high school in the state is High School of American Studies at Lehman College in the Bronx, ranked 15th in the United States. The top Long Island school is Jericho High School, which is No. 13 in the state and 91st nationally.

"The U.S. News rankings include data on more than 21,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia," states U.S. News & World Report. "Schools were awarded gold, silver or bronze medals based on their performance on state assessments, their graduation rates and how well they prepare students for college."

The report includes information about curriculum, test scores and student demographics. 

The No. 1 high school in the U.S. rankings is the School for the Talented and Gifted in Dallas, Texas.
