LEVITTOWN, NY — Friday was career day at Levittown's Northside Elementary School, giving students a chance to look into the future and see what their careers could hold.
From blue collar to the white collar, Northside students got to see a broad range of careers represented Friday, with in-school visits from several professionals.
Leading off were volunteers, village and town employees, who brought a firetruck, an ambulance, a garbage truck and plenty of background knowledge about their careers. There was also a meteorologist present to tell students how he prepares for live news broadcasts, an attorney, a physical therapist and a bus mechanic.
According to district officials, however, one career presentation struck a particular chord with Levittown students, perhaps thanks to the help of a four-legged coworker that came to visit the school.
"Students were thrilled to view a demonstration by
the Nassau County Police Department’s K9 Unit," district officials said. "Northside’s annual Career Day inspires students of all grades of the many possibilities available to them in the future."
