LEVITTOWN, NY — Voters will go to the polls across Nassau County Tuesday to approve or deny school district budgets, pick their board of education candidates and choose whether or not to adopt special ballot propositions; in Levittown, the case is no different. Below is everything you need to know about the Levittown school budget vote, board of education candidates and ballot propositions.
The Budget
The Levittown School District proposed a $284,420,293 budget, which is a 3.67 percent increase over the budget for the current school year. The proposed tax levy increase is 1.98 percent, within the allowable state tax cap meaning the budget can pass by simple 50-percent-or-more majority. The maximum allowable increase was 2.56 percent, per district documents.
The Rest of the Ballot
Also on the ballot Tuesday is a proposition to approve or reject a $15 million capital reserve fund expenditure and a vote to select three school board trustees from a slate of four candidates.
Running for those seats are Daniel Larkin, Anne Marie Guerra, Jennifer Messina and Phyllis Dalton. Messina and Dalton are current board trustees.
When Can I Vote?
Voting will take place from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, and information on polling stations can be found by selecting your street from a dropdown menu on the district’s website.
