LEVITTOWN, NY — A Levittown man is facing criminal charges this week after a confrontation at a deli ended in a punch being thrown and a knife being pulled, police said.
Nassau County police said they were called to La Fonda Deli in Levittown at 3:58 p.m. Sunday and were told upon arrival that 29-year-old Jawon Rainey had walked into the deli and caused a disturbance.
After being asked several times to leave, Rainey "became irate" and tried to punch one of the employees at the deli, police said. From there, Rainey left the deli and pulled a knife, "causing employees and patrons to fear for their safety," police said.
Rainey fled the scene and was later arrested, police said. Upon further investigation, police said Rainey had previously been issued a no trespassing ban from the deli and wasn't allowed to be there.
Rainey is now charged with second-degree burglary, second-degree menacing, third-degree attempted assault and endangering the welfare of a child, police said. His arraignment, police said, is scheduled for Monday.
