UNIONDALE, NY — Nassau County's electric vehicle infrastructure got a bit of a jolt this week, as PSEG Long Island awarded almost $1 million to pay for 16 EV chargers in Elmont and Levittown.
Per an announcement from PSEG, eight charging stations will be installed in the parking lot of an Elmont Home Depot, located at 1760 Hempstead Tpke., while eight more will be installed in the Nassau Mall parking lot at 3601 Hempstead Tpke. in Levittown. The total funding awarded was $928,000, all of which was awarded to Get Charged Fast EV Charging.
"PSEG Long Island created the EV Make Ready program to help promote the build out of EV fast charging stations in public places, such as shopping areas, apartments, office buildings and parks across Long Island," PSEG Long Island EV program manager Paul DiBenedetto said. "We appreciate that business owners are recognizing the benefits of installing electric vehicle chargers, which include attracting customers, creating a new revenue stream and highlighting their commitment to sustainability. PSEG Long Island offers significant financial incentives to offset much of the building costs needed for large and small commercial customers to create the groundwork to install EV chargers."
This is not the first round of chargers funded by PSEG, as the power company said it has provided rebates for more than 2,000 electric vehicle chargers. Those chargers, PSEG said, have been used to power businesses, municipalities and other organizations.
Locally, Get Charged Fast EV Charging's co-managing partner Marc Horowitz said the rebate funds would help his company and the drivers who may use the charging ports.
"We are grateful for the generous rebates from PSEG Long Island to offset the costs of building out these charging stations for EV drivers across our region," Horowitz said. "PSEG Long Island's EV team has been helpful, thoughtful and responsive in helping us plan out these two EV charging stations, along with more projects that are in the works in Nassau and Suffolk County. We appreciate PSEG Long Island's collaboration to support our efforts to bring the power to the public."
On a national level, PSEG said the rebate award came at a significant time: World EV Day, the company said, falls on Sept. 9.
