Drugs, Gun Found During Nassau Traffic Stop: Police

Two men from the Bronx were arrested Monday afternoon, police said.

LEVITTOWN, NY — Two men were arrested in Levittown after drugs and a handgun were discovered in their car, police said.

Officers spotted the 2012 Toyota Corolla heading eastbound on Flamingo Road at 3 p.m. Monday with numerous equipment violations.

During a traffic stop, the driver and passenger were instructed to exit the vehicle, police said.

An investigation revealed the driver, Edson Meza Alvarez, 33, of the Bronx, had a suspended license and was in possession of a controlled substance. The passenger, Victor Martinez Gutierrez, 31, also of the Bronx, was in possession of a controlled substance and a defaced grey 9MM semi-automatic handgun, authorities said.

Gutierrez was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm. He was expected to be arraigned on Tuesday.

Alvarez faces a count of criminal possession of a controlled substance and was released on an appearance ticket to return on November 20.
