Fuel Yourself at Hicksville's Healthiest Cafe

Local eatery offers assorted grilled and baked meals.

Dining out these days often limits healthy eating, but Fuel Your Body Cafe in Hicksville has changed that.

The restaurant, found at 196 West Old Country Road, offers an array of menu options that steer away from the usual fatty oils but still offer a ton of taste. Fuel Your Body Cafe is located in a large shopping center where parking is plentiful.

Though the interior decor may be misleading, Fuel Your Body Cafe provides great service to accompany their cuisine. The restaurant is a bit small and dimly lit, but the friendly staff is sure to make you feel right at home.

An extensive menu serves up breakfast, lunch and dinner, and early morning meals are served all throughout the day. For breakfast, eggs are generally cooked as egg whites. The Greek omelette ($6.75), filled with six egg whites, feta cheese, tomatoes, green peppers and onions, is a great choice to start the day. The fruit salad bowl (small $3, large $5) is a healthier take on breakfast and can be made with a scoop of low fat cottage cheese for an extra $0.75.

There's something for everybody for lunch and dinner, even the pickiest of kids. An assortment of wraps, salads, soups, pitas and platters fill the menu.

If you are in the mood for a salad, try out the Mediterranean appetizer platter for an ethnic flair. The dish mixes whole wheat spinach pie, a scoop of hummus and baba ghanoush on top of Fuel Your Body Cafe's signature greens.

A list of power platters are large enough to fill up any eater. The fuel fitness platter is rather generic but still delicious. Fuel Fitness consists of grilled chicken with grilled vegetables served over brown rice. The diesel mix is a combination plate of a grilled bison burger, turkey burger and grilled chicken served over brown rice. The shepard salad or mixed vegetables can be added for an extra dollar.

Fuel Your Kids offers a special selection just for children with burgers, pasta, chicken strips and much more. Most of the kids menu items run around $5 and will keep little bellies full and satisfied.

The restaurant is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Free wi-fi is available inside, and the staff offers dine-in, take-out and delivery ($10 minimum for delivery service).
