Island Trees Football Dominates Valley Stream North
The Bulldogs came back strong this week with a 35-8 victory against the Spartans.
The Bulldogs (3-3) battled against the Spartans (0-6) Saturday afternoon at Valley Stream North High School. After coming up short last weekend in a big game against Floral Park, the Bulldogs were determined to play hard and return home with a victory. The game ended 35-8 in Island Trees' favor.
Up until the last four minutes of the game, the Bulldogs kept the Spartans off the scoreboard. Junior quarterback Kyle Nigro, No. 13, ran for 108 yards and scored two touchdowns in the first half. Dave Grecsek, No. 29, ran for 155 yards with a total of three touchdowns. Defensive back Peter Tucci, No. 81, led the Bulldogs with nine tackles and four sacks. Mike Jeannetti scored five extra points off his kicks for Island Trees.
"We clicked today," said Island Trees Head Coach Mike Bonsignore. "We played well and we blocked a little bit better."

Grecsek scored two more touchdowns in the second half. The Spartans stepped up their game a bit towards the end and eventually put themselves on the board. Valley Stream's running back Evan Henry, No. 36, gained the Spartan's first points on a conversion with just a few minutes remaining, followed by No. 11, Anthony Martelli's touchdown run bringing the score to 35-8.
The Bulldogs will use this victory as momentum for their game next week against East Rockaway.
"It's all about preparing and getting ready for East Rockaway," said Grecsek. "They are one of the top teams in the conference."
"We need to focus and concentrate," Bonsignore said. "We want to sweep the last three games of our season, this being the first. We have a good shot at the playoffs."
Who's Next? Island Trees will face East Rockaway at home on Friday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m.
